The Project Groups

Group of people wearing white T-shirts with raised arms

The project has brought together three groups of scientists and clinicians whose expertise relates directly to the problem of AMD.

By uniting groups specialising in stem cell research, stem cell regenerative medicine and clinical practice this effective treatment for AMD will be significantly accelerated, delivering from the bench to the clinic a cell therapy for an eye disease which affects almost a quarter of people over the age of 60 in the UK.

The project groups are based in two geographical locations. In London, there is a stem cell regenerative medicine group specialising in the eye based at UCL Institute of Ophthalmology and a clinical group based at Moorfields Eye Hospital. In Sheffield, there is the human embryonic stem cell group which is based at the University of Sheffield's Centre for Stem Cell Biology.
