Your Choices

Welcome to the Your Choices section. We hope to provide you with some userful tips that we have received from other visitors to our site.

We are always interested in hearing more about new products, games or holiday resorts that especially cater for the visually impaired and would appreciate that you recommend to others. Please email us with your ideas, we look forward to hearing from you.

Latest Gadgets

There is an ever-increasing range of gadgets on the market to help visually impaired people with their every day activities.  Here we have provided links to a few websites that have been recommended as a good source of useful products. Remember that if you have found a useful product then please send us an e-mail so that we can spread the word.

talkingproducts.co.uk

Talking products sell a wide variety of items designed to make daily life simpler. Some of their products include talking labels and talking tins, all featuring re-recordable devices that enabling you to identify objects such as tinned foods accurately. The talking devices also come with magnets or Velcro straps, meaning that they can be quickly and easily attached to most objects, including tinned food and household cleaning products.

The website also features a range of other talking products, such as photo albums, greetings cards, invitations and promotional products, once again all featuring re-recordable devices.

ic-online.co.uk

ic-online are a company that not only provides talking products, but a variety of other visual aids. They have adaptations for standard computers (large print keyboards, computer monitor magnifiers etc.) as well as a selection of magnifiers (hand held, electronic, illuminated, pendant, pocket, and industrial/hobby etc.)

ic-online also sell items designed specifically for daily household use, including…

  • Electric iron guards – clips on to the iron to both guide the user and protect the hands from accidentally being burnt.
  • Liquid level indicators – emits beeps when the liquid being poured approaches the top of the container.

  • An array of talking products – talking kitchen scales, talking measuring jugs, even a talking microwave.

  • Perhaps the most exciting product available from ic-online is the Plustek book Reader. This machine translates the written words of a printed book into speech, thus giving you immediate access to any printed text. The pages of the book are scanned into the  Reader and it is then converted into high quality speech. The scanned text can also be saved on the hard-drive of the book reader for future use.
